EDUC 638 Intro

Hi, my name is Jared Young. I live on the coast of Maine. I love the coast! It is awesome riding in to work every day and seeing the ocean and the rocky shoreline. My whole body and mind just relax when I am around the ocean.
I am pursuing the Masters of Education in Teaching and Learning: Educational Technology and Online Instruction. My goal is to teach online classes when I am finished with my degree. I only have four classes left, so I should be done in December of this year. I am looking forward to finishing as it has been a long journey.
I currently work as the Technology Coordinator for one of the area school systems. I am responsible for all of the tech the schools use. And I am working alone, so it can get quite busy at times. But I love my job! I am really enjoying working with technology in an education setting.
A Bible verse that I feel applies to my job is II Timothy 2:15. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” This applies to my job in working hard and diligently. There are some down times, so I need to be mindful of not letting myself get distracted by things that aren’t work-related. Also, students and staff look to me to give them the word of truth concerning their technology needs. So this verse fits my job.
I would like to learn a couple of things in this course. First, I will be in a position that will require me to supervise other employees someday, so I would like to learn leadership and management skills. And second, I am interested in being brought up to date on the current issues and trends facing technology leaders. The more information I have, the better I can do my job.
And finally, I think if my life were to be made into a movie, I would want Kevin James to play the lead role. I am a guy that has a good sense of humor and likes to laugh, and he is a funny guy. Also, I don’t take myself too seriously, and he would be able to portray that side of me well. I have been told I resemble him somewhat as well, so that is a reason also.
